Course Description
The course is equivalent to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) mid B1 to high B1.
The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (General) (Level 3) programme is an academic qualifier and will focus on the four language skills – reading, writing, speaking, and listening with a total of 60 credits. Each of these skills will be presented and developed within a New Zealand context and will include intermediate grammar structures, tenses, vocabulary, pronunciation as well as reading, listening strategies, and study skills.
Entry Requirements
Applicants may be admitted to this programme
- Provided that they are 14 years of age or older; and
- Upon completing the English internal entry test, demonstrating suitability for enrolment for the programme; or
- Upon successful completion of the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2) programme; or
- An IELTS overall band score of 4.5 with no individual band score lower than 4.0 or equivalent.
Course Details
- 16 weeks (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM.)
Majority of the lessons are delivered in a classroom and incorporate a wide range of activities such as role plays, educational outings, individual, pair – work and group work, discussion, games, project-based learning, task-based learning, and media-based learning.

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2) leads to New Zealand Certificate in English Language (General) (Level 3)
