Al Amin is a Lecturer at the International College of Auckland and a PhD Candidate in Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He teaches postgraduate engineering courses, including DCE700 Advanced Structural Concrete, DCE701 Structural Systems, DCE702 Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, DCE703 Steel and Timber Structures, and DCE704 Multi-storey Building Design.
His research focuses on the seismic performance of steel structures with low-damage and resilient design systems, particularly concentrically braced frames incorporating friction-sliding connections. His work integrates advanced finite element modelling, experimental validation, and performance-based seismic design to enhance the resilience, reparability, and sustainability of structures subjected to severe earthquakes.
Al Amin's broader research interests include structural and earthquake engineering, steel and composite structures, reinforced concrete structures, geotechnical earthquake engineering, computational mechanics, and structural resilience. He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and actively contributes to research on innovative seismic-resistant structural systems.
