Dr. Wajiha Shahzad

Postgraduate Lead – School of Built Environment, Massey University (Auckland, New Zealand)

Dr. Wajiha Shahzad is a senior academic and experienced built environment professional currently serving as the Postgraduate Lead at the School of Built Environment, Massey University. With over 14 years of experience in tertiary education and a prior leadership background in the National Highway Authority, she brings a rich blend of academic, industry, and international insight to advisory roles.

Her academic journey includes a PhD in Construction, a Master’s in Construction Management, and multiple scholarly contributions in productivity, SME resilience, and construction procurement trends. She is a recipient of the BRANZ Doctoral Research Scholarship and the NZIOB Best Academic Performance Award, reflecting her excellence in research and education.

She has supervised and mentored postgraduate students and contributed to advancing research culture within the built environment discipline. Dr. Shahzad is also an active member of professional networks such as CIOB Oceania, where she engages with sector-wide developments.

Dr. Shahzad’s expertise in programme leadership, construction management, research strategy, and curriculum development makes her a valuable member of ICA’s Academic Advisory Board—particularly as ICA strengthens its postgraduate offerings and aligns qualifications with industry and regulatory expectations.

Relevance to ICA: Dr. Wajiha Shahzad brings deep academic and industry-aligned expertise in construction management, research leadership, and postgraduate programme development—critical areas as ICA rebuilds its academic credibility and refreshes its Level 7 and postgraduate offerings. Her leadership in embedding industry relevance, academic quality, and applied research at Massey University aligns with ICA’s strategic priorities in teaching excellence, programme renewal, and external engagement.

With a PhD in Construction and experience spanning engineering roles (including with Pakistan’s National Highway Authority), Dr. Shahzad also brings international perspectives on education and infrastructure. Her involvement supports ICA’s goals in:

• Strengthening academic governance through expert advisory input,
• Enhancing curriculum quality and industry alignment,
• Promoting research-informed teaching,
• Rebuilding institutional reputation through high-trust external relationships.
