New Zealand Certificate in English Language – Foundation
Course Description
The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) Foundation programme covers basic speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. Upon completing this programme, students will be able to communicate with support in everyday situations, e.g., shopping at the supermarket or ordering food in a restaurant. The outcomes of the course is equivalent to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) A1.
The lessons of this programme are delivered in the classroom and include a variety of interesting activities such as practical tasks, class outings, group games, and partnered activities.
Course Delivery
The certificate has 60 credits and is delivered over 24 weeks (including 4 weeks’ holiday). Students will have one-week holiday every sixth week. Classes are scheduled from Monday – Thursday (9am-2:30pm). Students are also expected to complete 10 hours of homework and independent studies in each study week.
Entry Requirements
Students may be admitted to this programme:
- providing they are 16 years of age or older
- • demonstrating their suitability for this level upon completing the entry test
