Overview

This programme aims to enable people to develop and use introductory skills related to: digital literacy; use of office productivity tools to process and present information; information technology basics; Internet fundamentals; computer maintenance and troubleshooting; computer applications, security risks and safety.

People will explore ethical issues related to digital devices and office productivity tools and develop teamwork and communication skills that will enhance their IT literacy and competency to participate in a range of personal, community and voluntary activities, in local, regional and global interactions.

International Student:

  • International applicants must have at least NZCEL Level 1
  • or evidence of equivalent English language proficiency
  • or pass ICA's internal placement test.

Contents

The programme consists of four (4) 15 credit papers:

    1. Fundamentals of Computing
    2. Internet Communication and Cyber Security
    3. Office Productivity Software and Services
    4. Presentation and Collaboration Tools

Outcome

Graduates of this programme will be able to:

  • use digital devices, software and applications to produce, process and present information.
  • operate effectively by performing a range of basic computer related tasks independently or in a team environment.

Graduates will have an understanding of the security and ethical issues related to digital devices and office productivity tools; and be equipped with teamwork and communication skills in a digital/online environment, that will enhance their employability in a range of personal, community and voluntary areas in a local, regional or global activities.
